In the real world, when you’re a farmer, you need space. You need room to grow all your crops, pasture land for your cattle and horses to graze. Your nearest neighbor could very well be six to ten miles away from you, especially if you’ve got a large farm. However, this isn’t the case with FarmVille, the game. In fact, very many things you can or can’t do within the game rely heavily upon your neighbors. And, more specifically, it relies on how many neighbors you have. Luckily, there are millions upon millions of neighbors from which to choose on FarmVille, and it’s a simple matter of making a couple worthwhile clicks. But how? How to get more neighbors on FarmVille if you don’t know where to start? Well, it’s a good thing you asked.

Friends & Family
The most obvious choice here when you’re seeking out neighbors in FarmVille would be your family and friends. Conveniently, they’re already on your friends list, and may very well be players themselves. Your friends and family are also probably the easiest to talk into adding the application, even if they never play, simply so they will be tacked on to your neighbor listing.
Coworkers
Here is something that not many people may have thought about. You may not be the only one at your workplace who plays FarmVille. It’s a simple matter of working it into the conversation. Undoubtedly, social media is a hot topic in the office, no matter what form is being discussed. And it’s incredibly easy to turn the conversation to Facebook, apps, and then Farmville. From there, you may not even have to ask for new neighbors, because your coworkers may ask first. Just remember workplace etiquette when posting status updates if you become Facebook buds with any of your fellow coworkers.
Fan Pages and Groups
Or are they called “like” pages now? Whatever they’re called – those pages where you press “like” to show publicly that you like something? Try searching up FarmVille sometime and see how many pages pop up. These can provide a wealth of prospective neighbors for even the most beginner of players. And all you have to do is provide a link in a comment on the page. People will do the rest of the work for you. It’s also a good idea to take the initiative and add some folks yourself.
Facebook groups dedicated to FarmVille will do much the same thing as a fan page. However, there’s the added ability to have discussions with other members on the group page. What is so handy about this opportunity is that you have the ability to share tips and tricks with other gamers.
Forums
For those who are wanting to make sure that the people they’re adding aren’t just bots and other puppet profiles designed to send you a plethora of annoying, non-FarmVille related messages, there are forums. FarmVille has an official set of forums, while many other gaming websites also have subforums for Facebook apps and FarmVille in particular. As with the Facebook groups, the FarmVille forums offer the added benefit of swapping tips and tricks with a wider number of people than what you may add as a neighbor.
Courtesy and Etiquette
When you’re going about finding new neighbors for your expanding FarmVille empire, let’s not forget some common rules of courtesy and etiquette. Firstly, there is a limit as to how many neighbors you can add in a single day. So send out daily batches of add requests within those limits in order to ensure you’re added immediately to their neighbor list and you to theirs.
And while you’re sending out those add requests, don’t forget that not everyone likes to play apps. I know, it’s pretty shocking, but there are people who don’t find them interesting. So don’t send multiple requests to Uncle Fred after he’s clearly declined the first one. No one appreciates spam in their requests, and you don’t want to be looked at as another one of “those” people, now do you?
One tip for non-players and even for you dedicated players – when you come upon publishings from apps in your feed that you don’t want to see, you can easily get rid of this. All you have to do is click on “Hide” and choose the option that best suits you. While players should do their best to control how much they’re posting in your feed, rather than starting a fuss over a Facebook app, it’s easier for everyone involved to simply hide the apps from which you do not want to see updates.
The question of how to get neighbors on FarmVille, even if you don’t quite know where to start, is a pretty easy one to answer. Once you start looking in the right places, you can build up your neighbor list and have even more fun playing.
